monica maria moraru (b. Bucharest, Romania) is a visual artist and filmmaker whose work traces hyphenated sensorial resonances across a patchwork of temporal, material, and relational encounters. Drawing equally from collected research as from personal encounter, overheard scraps and narrative reimaginings, her work situates collaged notions of ‘history’, archive and storytelling within the apparatus of visual language. These encounters often result in a dialogue of poetic and political ligatures, culminating in sculpture, video, moving image and sound installations.

Her work has been exhibited at Centre CLARK D’art et Diffusions (Montreal, CA), Meduza Gallery (Vilnius, LT), Rupert (Vilnius, LT), Bunker 2 (Toronto, CA), Trinity Square Video (Toronto, CA), among others. Her latest film, I Am Also Part of the Three Turns premiered at the European Media Arts Festival in 2024, where it won the EMAF award. Her work has screened internationally at festivals such as Stuttgarter Filmwinter (Stuttgart, GE), London Shorts Film Festival (London, EN), Rencontres International: Paris/Berlin (Paris, FR), Diffusions (Toronto, ON), among others. She is in post-production of her first fiction film, to be completed in late 2025.
